In memory of John Pokorny memorial fund

Hi, I am Kris Fogerty.

I'm very close with the Pokorny family. Right now Carolyn needs support financial help with cremation and a memorial service for her twin brother, John.

We are heartbroken and in disbelief, as we share the devastating news of the loss of Carolyn's beloved twin brother John Taylor Pokorny.

John was an incredibly gifted athlete. He was a founding member of the Berkeley Mavericks soccer team and a ranked tennis player. He was the golden boy and was giving back to his sport by teaching tennis to the local community.

John stayed home instead of going college and helped make almost hourly juices for his dad who was dying of cancer in 1987.

When he found out his older brother was dying of HIV related diseases he moved back home after living in Kauai.

Unfortunately, John became addicted to drugs and alcohol and had been homeless for the past 7-8 years. He has no money or insurance.

Times have been tough for Carolyn as the primary breadwinner for her family. She has been on and off State disability for 6 months in the past year. She took care of her mother until she passed in 2018.

She will need a little more time off to deal with the grief of losing her twin and last living relative.

Carolyn is a not only a grieving sister but former ICU nurse who was extra compassionate with the alcoholic and addicts that she was taking care of because there still is stigma within medicine about addictions.

She was laid off during covid from a job she loved and since she has been out of acute patient care she struggled to find a position she qualified for.

Last April she started a year long training program to become a nurse in the operating room. She is super excited to volunteer for medical missions like Operation Access or project smile.

By standing together, we can ensure that Carolyn doesn't have to face this financial burden alone. Your generous contributions will help cover the costs associated with Johns cremation and memorial service.

Any amount over the costs will be donated to a local non-profit which provides assistance to the unhoused.
