On June 25th, John was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, which has metastasized to the liver and stomach. He had emergency surgery to remove a 9 inch tumor that was causing internal bleeding, resulting in 6 blood transfusions and bowel resection. He then developed post surgical ileus, and a few weeks later a bowel obstruction.
After getting past his first hurdle, he now has an even larger battle ahead of him, as he starts his first cycle of chemotherapy very soon.
John lost both of his parents young, and as a result, his sister, Katerina, has been his rock and stability throughout life. She continues to radiate warmth and display the value and importance of family, as she rearranges her own life to care for his.
