As most of you know it has been almost 5 years ago that I had to leave a great position with McKesson and leave a home that I truly loved in San Francisco.
I was referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where I was told that I would need a liver and kidney transplant. The Mayo was adamant about me being closer to the Clinic and not to live alone.
My Mom offered to be my care giver and I purchased and remodeled a larger home for us in Lamberton. Rochester is inundated with people from all over the world setting -up households waiting for a transplant. There seems to be an unending need that are more ill than me.
Mom and I are now staying in Phoenix so we can be closer to the Mayo Clinic location here. There is a higher probability that I will be able to receive my liver and kidney transplant here. As a matter of fact I just got notification of a donor only to learn that the organs were not viable. I have come a long way, but now know that I am close......
Also as of Friday March 23, I was told that my Medicare and supplement will not cover the entire Surgery.
My greatest concern is having the right resources in place to support some of the expenses that caregivers coming into Phoenix will need as they help me for extended days and weeks in my recovery. Additionally, there are a multitude of unknowns and known expenses. Such items as a need for housing very near the clinic for the first thirty days after transplant, and a broad set of costly medications some which I will be required to be on the rest of my life.
Thank you for your willingness to support my effort to recover from the double transplant.
I hope to be able to use this site to update family and friends who are not able to communicate with me during the days following my transplant.
