If you have ever met Joey Kuhn, then I’m betting you know about his three loves: his wife Emily, his 7 ½ month old son Lucas, and his race cars! But we’ll let him keep it to himself what that order is! ;) You also know that Joey is not only a devoted dad and husband, but that he is also the kind of guy who always goes out of his way to help out his friends and family when they are in need. So now it is our turn to go that extra mile to help him out.
On Sunday, September 13th Joey was in a major accident at the Golden Sands Speedway while performing at the halftime show that left him with a punctured lung, broken rib, and several more fractured bones in his neck and back. Right now, Joey is on the road to recovery but it will be a long and grueling process for him and his loved ones. For the next couple of months, Joey will be wearing braces (a halo attached to a thoracic vest) that prevent him from moving his spine and neck which will protect his spinal cord and help his bones to heal. The hope is that these braces will help him heal without the need for major invasive surgery. As his spine will be completely immobilized he will be unable to work and will need lots of support at home from his family. Once the braces finally come off, he will still have more recovery and physical therapy to do. While Joey’s spirit is still there as he jokes with his doctors and family in the hospital just days later, this will be a long and intense process for him and his family before they get to the finish line.
This GoFundMe has been set up by his loved ones to help support him, Emily, and Lucas with the medical bills coming their way and everything the family may need to get through this difficult time. We ask that you consider contributing if you can. But you can also help out by sharing this fundraiser on your social media and with your friends and family, with a story about Joey!
At this time, Joey has not yet been released from the hospital and due to COVID19 precautions he is only allowed 1 visitor per day. The Kuhn family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support so far from friends, family, and the racing community and hope that you will continue to keep Joey in your prayers.
