Hello friends!
Where do I begin? My brother Joe has been dealing with his complex medical condition for the last 3-4 years. You see he is diabetic and after getting a small infection on his left toe… it all went downhill. They amputated toe by toe, inch by inch. After 3 long years , 27 surgeries, endless hospital visits, suffering and pain, and time away from his loved ones….his left foot/ leg has begun to fully heal! Our family was not prepared for what would happen next.
Out of nowhere he developed a sore on his right heel (the opposite foot )!! The infection spread fast and within only a few weeks, he had his heal amputated. He has been in and out of the hospital and a rehab facility since Jan 29th. It is now at a point that he will need to have his right leg amputated from the knee down. The surgery is planned for tomorrow, Friday March 28th.
The problem is, after the surgery Joe is supposed to be discharged to another rehabilitation facility. The doctors suggest that he should receive care there for at least 1-2 months. Unfortunately, his insurance only covers 21 days at such facility, of which he has already used. The co- pay with his insurance will be over $200 a night! There is absolutely no way his family can afford the cost of such care.
Our only other option is to bring him home and to try to care for him 24/7. Doing so would be challenging for his caregiver/ daughter Angelique who already works full time. Joe really needs the help of a rehabilitation facility. Not only for 24/7 care but for the adjustment of losing his leg and getting used to a prosthetic device.
Which is why I am starting this Go Fund Me.
So I am asking you to please, please find it in your heart to donate a few $$ to the best brother ever so he can get the physical therapy that he needs. Even $5.00 will help. I’ve attached a few pictures so you can see his journey and what he has been through these past 3 years. Thank you for reading his story!
