Joe's Recovery Fund
Donation protected

This account is for a dear friend to many of us, Joe Myers. As you may know, Joe was recently in an accident and sustained severe injuries. He suffered a T10 vertebrae fracture and is currently paralyzed from the waist down. He also had a collapsed lung and severe internal injuries. Joe was in ICU for six weeks and was in a medically induced coma for much of that time. He underwent three surgeries, multiple blood transfusions, and also contracted pneumonia and other infections. Joe was on a breathing tube for six weeks and also had a tracheotomy. The trache and breathing tube were thankfully removed this week.
Joe has a long road to recovery ahead of him and he may never walk again. Fortunately, he has the support of his wonderful family and friends. Joe’s parents have travelled from Ohio to be with him in Augusta. His mom has been here almost eight weeks now and his dad has traveled back and forth, staying in Augusta for weeks on end to be with Joe.
Now that Joe’s condition has begun to stabilize and he is out of ICU, there are plans for him to be transferred via ambulance from Augusta to a hospital in Ohio for long term recovery and rehabilitation. However, the transfer comes at a cost and is something that insurance will not cover. It is estimated that this is going to cost his family $9000 out of pocket.
Additionally, medical bills and expenses are beginning to pour in and will continue for some time. The family will also have to pay for home accomodations (wheelchair ramps, widening of doorways, kitchen and bath remodels, etc.) to make the home safe and accomodating for Joe.
This is where we, Joe’s friends and family, come in. There isn’t much that we can do to ease Joe’s pain and or shorten his recovery, but we can lighten this burden.
The goal of this GoFundMe account is to raise $25,000 to cover Joe’s transfer fee as well as to assist with some of the other various expenses that have and will continue to come up (hospital bills, airfare, travel expenses, moving expenses to place Joe’s household goods in storage, home modifications, etc.).
If you’ve known Joe for any length of time, you know he has a big heart. It isn’t uncommon for him to drop what he is doing to help a friend in need--- anytime, day or night! He is always the first to lend a hand. Now, it’s our chance to return this love to Joe and his family.
As a veteran of the United States Navy and a Purple Heart Recipient, Joe has been through a lot. He has survived IED explosions in Iraq and will survive this as well. It won’t be easy, but if anyone can do it, Joe can.
Joe is still in the hospital and will hopefully be starting spinal cord rehabilitation soon. His strong belief in the Lord will carry him through this terrible, tragic accident, but he needs your support, too. Thank you for your donation and God bless!
