My husband Joe has worked hard all of his life. He was a Manager of Seaman's Furniture. When he was 35 he got an abscess in his sigmond colon. He had to wear a colostomy bag for six months. This was reversed. His step-father died and his best friend died. He started to drink. He went into Mirmont, which is a wonderful place and very helpful. He as been six years sober. When he turned 52, he was diagnosed with Neuro-saroidosis. It is an MS like disease. He went from a cane to a four wheel walker and the to a stable walker with 2 wheels. He is now in need of a wheelchair. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania promised him to get into a program that supplies remicade infusions. That may take care of the lesions on his brain and maybe stop the demyelination of his spine. But if it is his spine that makes him catherterize and help himself relieve his bowels, it won't take care of that.
I work and he gets social security, but we live pay check to paycheck and use the credit card in between.
He is a good person and just found out the has shingles from his back to the front of his chest. It is really bad and very painful. I speak from experience. They just say an itchy tingly rash, they don't tell you about the full body pain and the possible nerve damage. My son has Type 1 diabetes and he goes low sometimes. This happened three times, twice when Joe was in the hospital. I had to call 911 and take him to the emergency room, because I think he had a seizure. The last time his blood sugar level was 18 and 30 is coma level. That is another story.
My husband cannot get out of the shower/bathtub with out hitting the floor. He cannot get his legs over the side of the bathtub. My bathroom is super tiny. You can't even fit two people in it. I am asking anyone with a heart to fund us, so we can get a walk-in shower and I can put his bathseat in there. I also need to make the house wheelchair accessible. My house is a Cape Cod, which makes it on the first floor but there is not enough manuvering room for a wheelchair. I would need ramps also.
We have been married for 30 years and I love my husband deeply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We are asking for the $40,000 because I am not sure how much is needed to widen walls and maybe add an addition for the bathroom at the back of the house.
