For the first time in Joe T's almost 2 decades of working for movements for change--they are taking a sabbatical this spring/summer to Rest & Create.
Joe T is a cultural organizer who works at the interactions of art, culture, spirituality and collective liberation. Since working as a young person at the Highlander Research and Education Center, they have contributed greatly to our movements and to Black art by:
Producing plays
Writing essays and poetry
Connecting Black artists to resources in Appalachia and beyond
Being a founding member of Stay Together Appalachian Youth (STAY)
Writing about Black art, religion, healing, family and queerness
Joe T is a cultural organizer at PeoplesHub and a leader in Black art in their hometown of Knoxville, TN and beyond.
Joe T Plans to travel to Mexico (where they have never been), without agenda, or deadline to rest and create. To be held in the mountains and healed by the ocean.
