Hello Joe Mac family and friends,
In May 2018, Joe McDonald was in the midst of reaching his dream to own and open his own restaurant when he was struck with the news he had Glioblastoma, one of the deadliest and most evil of all the cancers. As a result, Joe’s dream quickly halted, and his new battle began with his family and his love, Michele, by his side. There is no cure for this type of aggressive cancer.
Having a passion for cooking and cuisine, and his ability to give back to others such as a Ronald McDonald house, this cancer curve ball came as a crashing blow to his vision. The restaurant is still for sale as of this fund raiser, causing further financial strain to an already tough fight. You can check on the property for sale here.
Joe is one of the kindest, inclusive souls on the planet. He’s reached and bonded with countless kindred spirits through life – whether his career, hockey, cooking, meal sharing, Cubs fanning, or just a good beer among friends. He’s a Godfather and Uncle, a selfless boyfriend, as well as a loving brother and son. His mom, Faye, his girlfriend Michele, and father, John, have spent countless hours and funds together since May 2018 just to assure Joe gets as much of the right treatment and support he needs. (Note: Faye herself is battling cancer as well.)

Joe has overcome most of the odds through several surgeries and has lived beyond the typical expectancy for this disease, however, he has come into what is doctor-prescribed as his ‘final season’. We hear from doctors there are only months left. He reaches this place with gratitude, humility and grace – never giving up on spirit and ability to run this race he has been dealt with a fierce focus and a bit of Joe sarcasm on the side – not allowing this cancer to take the wicked sense of humor he has.
This is where you reading this comes in. Help is needed now.
Joe’s journey has witnessed many twists and turns. A final chapter is approaching. The goal of this fundraising endeavor is to provide financial relief for medical bills and mounting, every-day expenses. If he is physically able, it may even be the motivation to embark on a bucket list adventure.
Joe is not one to request or expect fussing over him. But a few of us reassured him that for someone who has given so much, it is time to receive. This is a final opportunity to give him help and support - all the proceeds of this fundraiser 100% goes directly to Joe's use. Update as of 9/19: John McDonald, Joe's father, will be managing and acting as the beneficiary of the funds for Joe's care. This was a decision between Joe, mom Faye, girlfriend Michele, and father John.
Please help us to meet and exceed the goal one more time. Our goal is to raise as many funds as we can asap through Oct 15th . Send a message through your giving to Joe that we love him and maybe we can provide him with a few memories along the short path ahead. This is also a way for friends to express your help where in-person visits are not feasible.
Help us to show him love through acts of generosity at the most critical time.

“You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live.... So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. That's also very, very important. I can't do this "don't give up" thing all by myself....”

Who is Britton Bigby?
I've know Joe for 4 years, and we met as colleges at Vertafore (a Pacific NW company). Joe and I have had plenty of brotherly/sisterly discussions on life, work and faith. I have a heart for people in need or who are sick, especially those who have made a difference in my life - and I was driven by my faith being a follower of Christ to reach out to help Joe and his family, who are amazing people. The funds for this fundraiser will go 100% to Joe, who will be using them towards medical expenses related to the cancer. Joe or family's executor (as of 9/19 , Dad John McDonald) will have 100% access to the funds (I will not be withdrawing the funds myself). Joe is pictured to my left below. For those who know Snehal, I'm right behind him.
