Update:
Thank you to all who have donated up to this point! Because of your generous donations, Jodi has reached the amount she needs to start treatment with her TMJD doctor in full!
She is still desperately in need of an additional amount of funds as this is just the beginning of a longer road ahead of her which includes:
Starting treatment with a certified NUCCA (highly specialized upper cervical chiropractor) on September 30th, who is being paired with her ongoing TMJD treatment.
Since her neck and jaw are severely misaligned, it is key that her two specialized doctors treat the neck and jaw together as a team, as these two areas of her body are playing against each other and preventing her from being able to get better.
Both doctors are 3-4 hours away so there will be a lot of expenses as far as travel and appointments go with the NUCCA.
She will also be going to Mayo Clinic on November 2nd for further testing and hopefully insight regarding her two conditions.
Breakdown of expenses needed:
1.) Initial TMJD treatment: $4000.00
(GOAL ACHIEVED) ✔️
2.) NUCCA treatment ( National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association):
$1000.00 for initial treatment/consult/evaluation and first adjustments.
3.) $60.00 to 95.00 for each additional NUCCA follow up visit which will be 1-2 times a week initially.
4.) Travel Expenses: $75-100.00 for each out of town/state trip. (Gas, tolls, food, hotel stays)
5.) Time off work: She has no (PTO) paid time off work days remaining so she is taking a short term disability leave starting October 2nd, for 4-5 weeks as that is all the FMLA time (which protects her time off work/job) she has remaining so that she can get paid while she goes to these initial frequent visits at the beginning of treatment. In order to do this though, she has to take five PTO days first which she does not have, before the leave will take effect, so she will not be getting paid initially. Any doctor appointments she has had to take for the last several weeks have been unpaid so her paychecks have already been significantly less.
Once again, thank you to all who have donated and prayed thus far. She is forever grateful. Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to help her in any way when it comes to her ongoing treatment. If you can, please share and help spread the word!
Meet Jodi Irvin. On the surface, she appears to be a normal, happy and healthy girl, employee, and mother to her 14 year old son. Unfortunately, as they often are, appearances can be deceiving.
Underneath the smile hides a woman deeply suffering for the last 3-4 years from a tricky condition called TMJD, along with a connective tissue disorder known as EDS type III, that she was diagnosed with last winter. TMJD primarily affects the jaw and a related complex network of muscles in the face and head.
Compounding these problems is EDS, which factors into the TMJD & upcoming treatment that she needs for her neck now by adding another variable and challenge to the stabilization she is lacking in several areas of her body. As all these muscles and bones become misaligned, this causes a chain reaction in other muscle groups and bones of the body to compensate for that misalignment, which in turn causes intense pain, tension and discomfort, in not only the jaw and face but also the neck, shoulders, back and hips.
Due to the misalignment in her jaw, it has caused a severe misalignment in the upper cervical area of her neck as well. Since these two areas are closely intertwined, she will also have to see a NUCCA which is a highly specialized upper cervical chiropractor to pair with her TMJD treatment.
The pain she experiences daily results in poor quality of sleep and leads to extreme periods of exhaustion. Close friends and family have spoken to her during all times of the day on a regular basis and the pain/exhaustion are always present, inflicting on her many limitations that affect her ability to simply live life like the rest of us.
To say that this treatment is expensive is an understatement. TMJD as well as seeing a NUCCA isn't fully covered by insurance because it has multiple facets making it difficult to code, so the majority of the money for her care comes out of her own pocket. As a single mom, you can imagine the financial strain this is putting on her, with no end in sight.
Her quality of her life is at best, a mere shadow of what it used to be. The debilitating nature of her pain and exhaustion she experiences due to night after night of poor sleep, gives her great difficulty in doing the things most of us often take for granted:
1.) Being Employed (and keeping her job)
2.) Caring for her son as a single mother
3.) Regular everyday activities such as running errands, grocery shopping, general chores or even taking a simple walk... absolutely every facet of life is affected by this.
It is Jodi's hope and prayer that her new treatment will bring a level of stability to her condition, so that she can begin living her life to the fullest again, free from the pain of these conditions. Yet in this moment, she just yearns for it to be manageable. Your love, support, and prayers will be greatly appreciated and not go unnoticed.
