In a moment, life can change in ways no family ever expects.

What began as back pain for Jim Peters in February 2026 quickly became devastating news: Jim was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an aggressive blood cancer. From that day forward, Jim and his family were thrust into a battle they never imagined—one marked by hospital stays, difficult treatments, setbacks, and unwavering faith.

As the cancer progressed, it attacked Jim's kidneys and spine, leaving him paralyzed despite multiple spinal surgeries. He endured constant dialysis, blood transfusions, radiation, and chemotherapy. When the disease transformed into a rare and aggressive form of leukemia, Jim underwent one final intensive round of treatment. Though he faced nearly every possible complication, including liver failure, he never lost hope.

Despite the odds, Jim remained optimistic about his recovery and continued making plans for the future with his beloved wife of 27 years, Heather, and their three children, Noah (27), Evan (24), and Marlei (16). He often spoke of what he believed God would do through his testimony. His determination, joy, and hope became a source of encouragement to everyone who cared for him. One of Jim's palliative care physicians described him as "remarkable," saying he had never cared for another patient quite like him.

Surrounded by his family and closest friends, Jim entered the presence of his Savior on his 52nd birthday, Wednesday, July 29, at 2:30 p.m.

While Jim would want to be remembered in many ways, above all he was a devoted follower of Christ. He served as a youth pastor for eight years, a ministry that influenced not only the students but their families as he and Heather opened their home and their hearts to countless teenagers. Jim was a loving husband and the proud father of three cherished children. He was the sole provider for his family, at times working multiple jobs without ever complaining. Jim was a Marine Corps veteran with a brotherhood of men who can testify to his work ethic, sense of duty, courage, and steadfast friendship. Jim was also a highly respected leader in the workplace. He took great pride in his profession, achieving his career goals through determination and relentless hard work.

Jim had a remarkable ability to make lifelong friends. He loved grilling, cheering for Ohio State, the Massillon Tigers, and even the Browns (despite the perpetual disappointment), making people laugh, singing with joy, and making everyone around him feel like family.

Jim's passing leaves us with a tear in the fabric of our family that will never be repaired. Yet, as profound as our sorrow is, we also rejoice in the assurance of where Jim is today and in the extraordinary legacy of faith, love, integrity, and generosity he leaves behind.

Now Heather and their children face the unimaginable task of rebuilding life without their husband, father, best friend, and provider. Along with the grief of losing Jim, they are navigating significant medical expenses and the everyday financial responsibilities that have accumulated during the months Jim was hospitalized. As Heather begins this next chapter, we hope to ease some of those burdens so she can focus on her family, grieve without the immediate weight of financial uncertainty, and take each day one step at a time.
