Our friend and fellow Jim Davies died unexpectedly on Monday, July 18th. While many of us are still in shock, there has been such a beautiful outpouring of both grief and appreciation for all that he brought to our lives. Those smiling eyes. That earnestness and enthusiasm. His magnificent, grateful heart.
Many friends and family members have asked how they might give in his memory. His mom, Rita, requests, in lieu of flowers, that any monies go to two local nonprofits that were there for Jim and for which he had great affection. These two special organizations support those in recovery from drug addiction. All funds collected via this donation page will be divided as follows:
70% to the Castro Country Club, a clean-and-sober social space in the Castro district of San Francisco. The Country Club, which has been supporting the LGBT recovery community for over 30 years, holds recovery meetings, hosts recovery-milestone celebrations, and changes lives for the better on a daily basis. What’s more, Jim had two successful photography shows at the Club in the past two years that nourished his artist’s soul.

30% to Finding Fellowship, a local nonprofit that puts on an annual multiday retreat for recovering addicts among the redwoods in Sonoma County. The retreat includes recovery meetings, workshops, activities, a dance, and lots of fun, food, and fellowship. The organization also assists those in financial need with scholarships.

As his mom said, “His heart was here in San Francisco.” We thank you for any and all donations in his memory and pledge to keep you updated about the disbursements to these two fine organizations.
