Jim Osowski

We are Jim's siblings, Pat, Maria, and Paul, and we would like to tell our brother's story.

After an almost 30-year career in law enforcement, Jim was in the process of changing jobs and moving back to Minnesota when a medical emergency struck. In the early morning hours on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022, after experiencing significant abdominal and chest pain, he drove himself to the local ER in Brookfield, WI. The doctors began extensive testing and discovered his chest was inflamed, he had blood clots in his stomach, his spleen was bleeding, and he had a mass on his liver. Later, it was discovered that what they initially thought was a mass on his liver was many blood clots.

On Thursday, Jim was transferred to a larger hospital, Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, where he was placed in the ICU. He was put on an IV blood thinner as doctors continued to run many tests to try and determine what was causing the many blood clots he had.

On Friday, doctors performed a procedure to remove clots by his kidney and spleen to try and get the blood flowing and prevent his intestines from dying. The three main veins in his liver were completely blocked, and stents were inserted.

On early Sunday morning, Jim had to have emergency surgery. Doctors had to remove his spleen and pulled five units of blood from his cavity! His kidneys and liver were also in failure, but doctors are optimistic their function will come back.

On Monday, Jim had to have yet another procedure. Doctors had to go into his liver again to remove clots and adjust the stent as one of the main veins was completely blocked again.

Doctors have continued to run many tests, MRI and CT scans throughout the past week. Doctors do not know what is causing the blood clots, and further testing is being done to determine this and hopefully rule out some type of cancer. It is anticipated he will be in the hospital for 1-2 more weeks.

Jim is on his way to recovery but is not out of the woods yet. After years of serving the public, we would like to serve him by helping him out financially with his ongoing medical expenses and moving expenses. Any amount of help you can give is greatly appreciated by our whole family. Thank you!
