Hi there, for those of you who did not know or have heard about. Hoffman family has a very, very tough year and are still working with this.
In June 2013 Jill (I) was admitted into Swedish medical after getting sick at home and puking up blood. My doctor told me to go straight to the ER. They did plenty of testing over the next week. I ended up back into the ER a few days later and this went on all summer. My skin color was yellow with red spots, my white of the eyes was also yellow. I was very weak and they were trying to get the right medication for me. I ended up with ascites, accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. Some common causes of ascites include liver disease or cirrhosis, which I had both of mostly due to my drinking. I have been clean for 7 months and attend alcohol classes and 6-9 AA meetings a week. I am an Alcoholic! I will never forget my first visit with my liver specialist. She went into great detail of my results. Ascites, jaundice, cirrhosis and worst of all I am in the end stages of liver disease. I asked what does that mean? She replied that if I don't get on the liver transplant list and receive a donor liver that I could die in 2 days or 2 years, with 2 years probably being the most.
We have put the goal amount at $50,000. which is a lot and we in no way know we would receive that much. Any penny, nickel, dollar counts. Medical costs for the transplant is $500,000. plus. I will also have prescriptions that will average $1000.00/month for the rest of my life.
I just got the call that my name has been put on the Transplant List!!! So it could be any day now some people end up waiting up to a year and some just a few days to get a call that there is a liver for them, then have an hour to get to the hospital. I must have my cell with me at all time. Thanks for listening and just to know that you are thinking of us is enough for me.
