Updated 11/14/2022: We are raising money for medical, travel, and expenses related to the Kidney Transplant for Jerry and if needed, his donor. After receiving his second heart transplant, Jerry's kidneys were damaged and rated stage 4 kidney failure. It's been almost two years since the Heart transplant and Jerry has been approved for a kidney transplant. He will receive a living donor kidney from his sister, Patty. The transplant is scheduled for January 9, 2023 at Duke University Hospital. Patty will travel to Duke to donate her kidney. Jerry is a two time heart transplant recipient. He received his first one in 2010 and his second one in 2020. He required the second heart after his first one started rejecting. Jerry is a walking miracle. He has gone through so many life saving surgeries post transplant and has survived. He doesn't quit!
Jerry is 54 years young. He is a Veteran who served in the United States Army. He has been married to Lynda for 25 years and they have two sons, Matthew who is 22 and Aaron who is 17. Matt is a graduate of UNC Wilmington and Aaron is playing baseball at Rice University in Texas
. Lynda has been the primary income earner for the family while juggling household and medical expenses. She is a fantastic woman and support person and needs our help.
You might ask, why Jerry? Why does he deserve a second chance? Jerry has diligently treated his transplanted heart with respect by regular daily exercise, healthy eating, diligently sticking to his medicine regime and giving up alcohol. He is an incredibly giving man, who supports his family in so many ways. Personally, as his sister, I can tell you that throughout my life Jerry has been there for all of our family. Many times Jerry has traveled from North Carolina back to Michigan for different sports and activities for his nieces and nephews, always being at special events. You’ll see pictures of him pinning his niece, Ashley when she commissioned into the United States Air Force from the Academy. You’ll see many pictures of family and friend outings. He has always placed a strong value on these relationships and leads a life of integrity and family values.
The costs associated with this effort are for medical expenses, costs associated with loss of wages, and if there’s an outpouring, we hope to help other families in the same situation.
Thank you!
Patty Alexander
