Jerry Drexler was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in May 2014. This is his story!
A few years ago, Jerry began noticing weakness in his hands and muscles twitching in his arms, after seeing a multitude of doctors and having many tests, a diagnosis of ALS came back in May of 2014. Their family is devastated! There is NO CURE for ALS and the survival rate is 3 to 5 years.
In May, 2014, Jerry's hands were visibly atrophying and he needed help with things like tying his shoes. Now, September 2015, Jerry uses a power wheelchair, has limited use of his hands, needs a bi-pap machine at night to breathe and no longer can run the family business! As you can see, ALS is a progressive, degenerative disease. The worst part is the loss of your diaphragm muscle, causing the inability to breathe on your own.
Kristin and Jerry Drexler have been inseparable for the last 25 years. Kristin refers to Jerry as her "best friend and soul mate". They have two wonderful boys Dylan, a senior at Burlington Central High School and Josh, a sophomore, whom they are very proud of.
Jerry can no longer work and Kristin is taking care of him, medical bills are piling up, they need a wheel chair accessible van, and they have two boys attending High School.
Lets help ease the financial burden this family faces.
Kristin, Jerry, Dylan and Josh are doing their best to have a positive attitude and enjoy time together while they can. Kristin says "we focus on what we have and not what we've lost! I am so proud of Jerry, he is by far the strongest man I know!"
