Our sweet baby girl came into our lives with a lesson in patience and message of unconditional love for everyone she meets.
Jera suffers from a mutation in her DNM1 gene and it is characterized by microencephaly, seizures, feeding issues, mobility issues, being non verbal, mitochondrial complications, having complex communication needs, and severe developmental delays. Over the years we have worked hard to gain skills and make progress. To date, Jera has learned to cruise and walk holding hands. She is learning to communicate with a PODD, an augmentative and alternative communication device. She has just developed a good nod and shake so she can answer Yes/No to questions and choices. Jera's receptive language seems to be amazing. And she has so much to say and share and is just starting to be able to get it out.
But what we are realizing is that another issue Jera has is Sensory Processing. Jera has always had trouble getting her brain to communicate with her body. We are now realizing that some of her "quirks" are tricks that allow her to "find" her body in space. With this new knowledge and her breakthroughs in communications, we now are looking at many things to help her in her world.
We are blessed to have love and support from family and friends. Many people ask us "how can I help?" and until now, we have asked for prayers for continued health, etc. Now we have a list of things we need to aquire to help with Jera's communication needs and also her sensory needs.
The money from this GofundMe will go to purchase a Joki hanging nest swing, an Ipad, switches and a switch interface, and grab bars for jera's trays and tables. Also for the modifications needed to attach the ipad to her table so she can work with her switches.
