On March 8th 2024, Jenny received news from her Dr. no one expects or wants to hear at any age but especially not at 26 years old.

After being biopsied, a lump she had been monitoring for a few months was confirmed to be breast cancer. Further tests also confirmed she has the BRCA 1 gene mutation which means she is more than 50-60% likely to get breast cancer again or get ovarian cancer compared to those without. Tests also confirmed the cancer is triple negative (TNBC)—-this type of cancer is more difficult to treat than other types of breast cancer. Because of these results, Jenny will need multiple rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and will have to undergo double mastectomy surgery with reconstruction as her best options in fighting this disease.

A couple of us sisters helped Jenny start this fundraiser in the hopes of helping to ease some of the financial strain of any and all upcoming medical bills and living expenses for Jenny and her husband, Corey. Jenny is grateful to have good insurance but even then, all treatments and procedures will be costly. She will continue working as treatment allows, but may need to take unplanned days off depending on how she reacts to the chemotherapy treatments. Jenny & Corey only recently moved to the Denver, CO area from Texas late last year, and have no family nearby. Corey will be Jenny’s sole caretaker while she goes through treatments and may also have to take unplanned days off. They have applied for state benefits and have been approved but still may need extra help. These donations will go to support Jenny & Corey in paying medical expenses/debts, bills, and day to day living/travel expenses when necessary.

A little about Jenny for those who don’t know her personally:

Jenny grew up in Texas, the second to youngest of nine children, and a theatre kid! She met Corey in high school while they both attended Crystal Sea Drama Co, a theatre co-op run by our mom. They were only 16 years-old when they met and have now been together for 8 years and married for 2! As mentioned before, they recently moved to Denver, Colorado in October of 2023 to start a new chapter of their lives. Neither of them have ever lived so far away from their hometown!

Art is Jenny’s therapy and she loves looking at and creating art in multiple forms, although recently, she confesses to only working on coloring books. She has also taken to reading more this year, already having read 3 books in 2024. Corey and Jenny like to bake and try new recipes too! They also enjoy playing video games together (mostly Stardew Valley) and love a good night out going to music shows, specifically EDM (Electronic Dance Music)—House and dubstep are their favorites! Recently they started hiking and playing pickleball as a way to stay active and enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather and views. Their little family includes two cute and silly pets—their cat (Jojo) and their rat terrier mix dog (Maisie).

Together they look forward to beating this thing and getting a re-do of their first year in Colorado!
