Life-Altering Burns After Tragic 4th of July Explosion – Please Help Jennifer Heal
Hi, my name is Jodie LeFever, and I’m the older sister of Jennifer Schulte. I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but our family is facing a heartbreaking and life-changing situation — and we are humbly asking for your help in any way you can give it.
⸻
What Happened
On July 4th, 2025, Jennifer was visiting a friend’s pole barn when a violent propane explosion occurred due to a gas leak. She was caught in the fire upstairs and had to fight her way through the flames to reach the stairs and escape. In the process, she suffered third-degree burns covering approximately 60% of her body.
She was transported from Alma, Michigan, to Hurley Medical Center in Flint, where she has already undergone multiple surgeries, with many more still ahead. The doctors miraculously saved her life — but her journey to healing will be long, painful, and filled with unknowns.
⸻
What We’re Facing
Our family has been doing everything we can to support her:
• Our mom is driving back and forth from Harrison to Flint nearly every other day just to sit by her side and keep her spirits up.
• Our sister in Florida is unable to afford travel.
• Our father is in Wyoming, also unable to return to Michigan at this time.
• Jennifer had been living in a small camper at our brother’s house — but with her new physical needs, that will no longer be a safe or sustainable option.

About Jennifer
Jennifer is the mother of two beautiful women and the grandmother of two brand-new baby girls. Her family means the world to her — but her love and care extend far beyond her own.
Over the years, Jennifer has opened her home to countless people in need. If someone was homeless, hungry, lost, or struggling, Jen gave them shelter, food, and compassion — even when she had very little herself.
She would feed others before feeding herself.
She would give away her last dollar if it meant helping someone else.
To Jen, “no” wasn’t in her vocabulary when it came to helping someone survive.
Her heart is enormous. Her generosity has touched so many. And now, she’s the one who needs that love and kindness returned to her.
⸻
We Are Asking for Help
Jennifer is still at high risk for infection, exhaustion, and ongoing complications. We are asking for donations and support to help cover:
• Travel costs for family to stay involved and by her side
• Burn care supplies, recovery clothing, and special bedding
• Safe, accessible housing and home modifications
• Financial support for ongoing medical expenses and care
• And one special thing: Jen absolutely LOVES rocks — unique, beautiful, cool rocks of any kind. If you have a special one to share, it would lift her spirits more than you know. It may sound simple, but to her, it means comfort, strength, and connection.

Please — Anything Helps

Jennifer is fighting for her life and future — and she shouldn’t have to fight alone.
From our hearts to yours,
Thank you.
