On August 5, 2017, Jen Patten was visiting friends in Rhode Island where they rented mopeds to tour Block Island together. What was meant to be a fun excursion turned into tragedy for Jen, who fell on a sharp curve. She hit a truck and boat trailer, flying 17 feet to land in the road. She suffered multiple compoud fractures and her foot was nearly severed.
Jen was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where doctors performed a 7-hour surgery to save her lower leg. She is still hospitalized and being transported between two Rhode Island hospitals in an ambulance daily for hyperbaric therapy. She has lost an artery in the leg, has significant nerve damage, and lost cartilage in her foot. Jen faces a very long road to recovery with inpatient rehabilitation and amputation of her leg remains a possibility. She will not be able to work for many months. But Jen is a brave person...
Her loving family, who live in Wilbraham, MA, have missed a great deal of work to be at her bedside in Rhode Island. In the midst of this, Jen's uncle experienced a serious illness in Springfield, MA, causing her family to split their time between the two locations. On August 15th, their family car broke down and requires necessary repairs.
I have worked with Jen's mom, Cindy, for many years. There is no harder working person in my department. Cindy herself just beat cancer two years ago. This is a wonderful family who could greatly benefit from any support you can give.
