Hello, I am Jen: Mother, wife, teacher, friend. In 2021, I received my first cancer diagnosis requiring major surgery (hemiglossectomy and flap replacement) and was able to successfully recover and go on to teach a year of 3rd grade, followed by two years of 2nd grade at Vinland Elementary. Unfortunately, the dreaded ‘C’ has returned. I am Stage 4 and the cancer has invaded my left jaw and is heading down my throat. The surgeon describes my situation as ‘urgent’ and as ‘the last Hail Mary.’ I am a beast and I will return but I do need some help. After surgery, I will be in hospital in Seattle at least 10 days. Following that will be a lengthy recovery/rehabilitation as I will have a trachea, feeding tube, boot for leg and will most likely need chemo, speech therapy to relearn how to swallow/speak and physical therapy. I am seeking funds to help pay for my husband Ben to stay in a hotel near the hospital so that he will be able to be with me at the hospital without the daily commute back and forth to Poulsbo. I also need an ipad to help with communication for the time I am unable to speak. Any funds over that amount will go towards the many incidentals/equipment I may need as part of the recovery process.
