Ruthie's Fund

Hello friends,

Our dear friend, Jemima "Ruthie" Moore was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 metastatic ovarian cancer involving her ovaries, uterus, bladder, colon, appendix and diaphragm. She underwent a radical 7 1/2 hour surgery on July 17th & the surgeons are confident that they removed every cell that they were able to visualize. Jemima will begin a grueling chemotherapy schedule next week that will last for the next 4 1/2 months.

If you have ever had the pleasure to meet Jemima we guarantee that it was not without a smile & a laugh. She has that way about her, doesn't she? That funny, charming, smart-alecky, joke cracking way that her unmistakable (& sometimes indecipherable!) accent makes all the more endearing. Having a bad day or not in the greatest mood? No worries - 5 minutes with Jemima will have you smiling & belly laughing in no time. This held steadfastly true from the very first words out of her mouth after surgery - NG tube & all. Those (angelic) nurses didn't know what hit them!

If you have known Jemima for even a very short period of time you have surely experienced her incredibly big heart. Her loving & caring soul truly has no bounds, no limits. Whether helping friends recover after surgery, her volunteer work or helping a poor soul who has no one else - she is there. Always. For anyone. For friends, for strangers. Scrubbing, cleaning, shopping, companionship - anything. Jemima is there - she's your girl. She's there to lesson ones burden, to uplift ones spirits, to offer friendship, love & laughter. Her selfless spirit is truly rare & exceptionally beautiful.

For those who have known Jemima for a bit longer, you have witnessed her superhuman strength. It's a strength that not all of us possess - a seemingly limitless determination & will that holds up to any adversity. It's the strength of a survivor, a hero. We are all counting on that incredible strength to carry her through all that is to come.

Friends & coworkers of Jemima have witnessed a work ethic like no other. She has worked most days of her life from a very young age - & she has labored hard. Her dedication & faithfulness to her employers & her coworkers is beyond admirable. Jemima has worked through most weekends & holidays of her adult life &, most recently, through extraordinary pain. Times when others would have taken time off for sick or earned time she was there, no matter her physical condition.

We who have the honor & fortune to call her our friend, our family, appeal to those of you whose lives Jemima may have touched in some way over the years. Jemima will be unable to return to work for quite some time & will need assistance to help cover her rent & living expenses over the next few months. Please help us show our friend that her community cares as much for her as she has cared for all of us.

Thank you so much for your love & support.
