This fundraiser is for Jason, who is facing a potential cancer diagnosis and needs urgent medical care.

At Jason's last colonoscopy, we discovered a mass creating an 80% blockage and causing a lot of pain. They could not get their tools past the mass, which biopsied as Adenoma (pre-cancer), and the doctor said he would be surprised if there is not full-on cancer where they could not biopsy.

The gastroenterologist said he wanted a colectomy done before Christmas, but the surgical team we were referred to cannot get Jason in for another month or two.

We are looking into medical insurance, which Jason does not have right now, but we are doubtful about how much new insurance will cover given that there will be a deductible.

Jason needs a CT scan before the surgery to determine if the cancer has spread to other organs, lymph nodes, or even further down the colon where they could not get to during his colonoscopy. The colectomy itself was estimated to be $3000, not including anesthesia (which will be at least another $1000), and about a week-long hospital stay while he recovers. This will all need to be paid upfront, as the hospital considers this procedure "elective." And he will need another colonoscopy after (which was almost $3000 out of pocket the first time).

Late winter/early spring is slow in both of our lines of work. The holidays have been tight and both of our kids have birthdays in the next 3 months. Jason will not be able to work for at least 6 weeks after the colectomy, so in addition to all the medical costs, our family will be seeing significantly less income than usual.

We are fundraising to cover the medical expenses and support our family during this difficult time.
