Hi, I am Jade. I am seeking help to obtain a small cabin on my land in Wisconsin.
(Note: please click on "Read More" if you want to see photos and details of the project. Thank you.)
I am 66 and currently live in a 1976 Airstream that, unfortunately, was left sitting for years before I acquired it and I’ve discovered it not only has leaks causing mold but a mouse infestation that makes all my lower cabinets and most closets unusable, despite my excellent mouser feline companion. This Winter has been brutal and when temperatures drop below 0°F I cannot keep it above 50°F in here despite my best efforts at insulating it better. My income is no longer sufficient to save for larger expenses on top of the essentials and I have exhausted all the usual methods to obtain assistance. My simple, limited budget is stretched to the max so folks suggested I try here.
There is a local company that builds small structures on skids, and the funds I am seeking will allow me to order a “cottage” that my cat and I can move into. The land is already prepped, but the structure, while not large or expensive, could not be covered by the loan I was able to get.
Here is what $25,000 will allow me to acquire: A pre-built 14ft x 32ft, pre-wired for electricity, partially insulated cabin with up-graded windows and doors and a 30-year metal roof. It takes 5-8 weeks on average to build and delivery is included. The price as described is around $20,000, with half needed up front for them to start. Plumbing will be minimal as I do not have a well and that is one reason the structure must be on skids. The extra $5,000 will allow me to finish insulating and covering the walls and ceiling, buy lighting fixtures, and (used) kitchen appliances. Below are pictures of what I would like to have built and the spot where it will be located.
Thank you for your consideration of this project. It is hard to ask for help and I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to read this. I will post pictures and updates as things progress.
My Silver Streak Airstream "Sally" that I am currently living in.
The site covered in snow in January 2023. The green arrow is pointing to the cleared and leveled location for the structure I am calling "Fern Cottage."
The basic floor plan. I will put a kitchen in the bump-out area on the porch.
This is the site looking from where the Cottage will be toward the road. I live at the end of a shared country road. Once the Cottage is delivered I will turn the space between the porch and the road into a sitting area and wild garden and replant trees and some bushes for privacy.
This is the rendition by the builder of what the Cottage should look like completed.
