Jacob's Testicular Cancer Fund
Donation protected
My son, Jacob, who just turned 21 a few weeks ago, was diagnosed on Monday at the emergency room with testicular cancer. Yesterday, he had surgery to remove the testicle and we are awaiting further tests and results to see if this has metastasized. What a shock for this to happen to such a young, active, healthy young man, especially who happens to be my only son!
Jacob is fortunately on my health plan, but I have a high family deductible, of which $4,000 has not yet been met this year. I am a widow of 14 years and have been working full-time since then to support myself, Jacob and my 22 year old daughter, Dominique. Jacob has been employed full-time but without benefits, and will need to take unpaid time off during his recovery and further medical issues. After the $4,000 deductible has been met, there will still be substantial co-pays to be made. I had airline tickets to fly to Wisconsin to visit my elderly mother in a Memory Care facility yesterday, but obviously cancelled those plans to care for Jacob. Thankfully, Jacob was diagnosed the day before I left so I could be here for him. I, too, am missing work to help Jacob through this nightmare.
Asking for help has not been my nature and does not come easy for me, but if you are able to donate even a little to go toward the deductible, I would be eternally grateful. If not, I would covet your prayers that Jacob's cancer has not metastasized, that the surgeon was successful in removing the cancer yesterday, and that Jacob would feel God's love and mercy in this crisis and urgent matter. I pray that Jacob will be able to someday marry and conceive children and that there are no complications from the surgery.
Please encourage your son(s) and young men in your lives to seek immediate attention if any abnormal symptoms arise, as Jacob was too embarrassed to discuss this with me when symptoms began developing about a month ago. Self-checks should be done regularly, just as women are strongly encouraged to do self-breast exams and obtain Paps regularly. Hopefully, we caught this early enough. It is more prevalent than you might think!
Thank you so much for any support you may be able to provide, including much-needed prayers or just by sharing this page! This has been so difficult emotionally, physically and financially, and I trust that God will bless you in return.
