Jacek, a great painter and poet, had a colorful personality that touched many people.
Many have asked how they can help, and we’d like to offer a means for anyone wishing to contribute their support.

Jacek Luzar Gulla, born June 15, 1948, died in a New York hospital, after a long illness, on November 14, 2021 at the age of 73. Poet, painter, essayist and art reviewer, he wrote for, among others, "East Village Eye" and "Nowy Dziennik" in New York. An "ART/ World NY" critic mainstay of the '80's, Gulla's deep and reflective poetical art reviews anchored the newspaper for over a decade and were a bit of pleasant shock to the reader used to more glossy reviews. He published volumes of poetry in Polish and English, such as "Trojglos".
His poems and essays appear in many Polish and American publications. In New York he participated in joint poetry readings with Allen Ginsberg. In 2013, he won the Poetry & Paratheatre Magazine Award in the poetry category.
Jacek had dozens of exhibitions of his paintings. He had come a long way from the Liceum Plastyczne, a famed art school in Cracow, Poland, where he hailed from, prior to his move to New York City in 1972. His roots in the Cracow avant-garde and counter culture leading to collaborations with Tadeusz Kantor and Jerzy Bereś, as well as other significant figures of Crakow's bohemia, led to his place as a fixture in the art happenings of the Lower East Side and Soho art scene the '70's and '80's.
In the words of his friend Laura Jean Zito:
"It has been said that we mustn't mourn for the dead, our tears make them sad, we must preserve them by keeping their memory alive. There is so much to keep alive here of Jacek's poetry and paintings that we implore you to please give something, anything, that we, his friends, as a group, may build something that would have made his heart proud of the human race, even though he struggled with faith in others. Please help Jacek's life's work be preserved to nurture future generations with your generous donation to our fund. This is what he lived for".

Poeta, malarz, eseista i filozof, pisał między innymi dla East Village Eye i Nowego Dziennika w Nowym Jorku. Jego refleksyjne poetyckie esseje były miłym zaskoczeniem dla czytelnika przyzwyczajonego do typowych recenzji sztuki. Wydał tomiki poezji w języku polskim i angielskim, jego wiersze i teksty ukazały się w wielu publikacjach polskich i amerykańskich. W Nowym Jorku brał udział we wspólnych czytaniach poezji między innymi z Allenem Ginsbergiem. W 2013 roku zdobył nagrodę magazynu Poetry & Paratheatre w kategorii poezji.
Miał dziesiątki wystaw swoich obrazów. Przebył długą drogę z Liceum Plastycznego w Krakowie, skąd pochodził i gdzie mieszkał przed przyjazdem do Nowego Jorku w 1972 roku. Był aktywny w kręgach awangardy i kontrkultury. Współpracował z Tadeuszem Kantorem i Jerzym Beresiem oraz innymi znaczącymi postaciami krakowskiej bohemy.
Uroczystość upamiętniająca Jacka Luzara Gullę odbędzie się 4 grudnia, sobota o godzinie 16.00 tej w Arthur's Funeral Home 207 Nassau Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222.
Organizujemy tę zbiórkę by pokryć koszty usług związanych z końcem jego życia i miejmy nadzieję, zainicjować fundusz na budowę stałego miejsca pamięci, dzięki któremu zachowa się jego dorobek. Dziękujemy za wszelką pomoc.
