Wat zijn jouw goede voornemens voor 2024?

Meer tijd met vrienden & familie? Meer tijd om te sporten? Meer tijd voor jezelf?

Meer tijd… dat is ook het voornemen van onze zoon en broer Job. Meer tijd om te leven…

Job (32) is in 2018 gediagnosticeerd met een zeldzame vorm van kanker: een synovio sarcoom. Afgelopen oktober kreeg hij te horen dat hij uitzaaiingen in zijn longen heeft en niet meer met chemo te genezen is. In Nederland is hij uitbehandeld.

In Duitsland is er een veelbelovende immuuntherapie mogelijk waar Job aan deel zou kunnen nemen. Immuuntherapie is een hoopgevende behandeling: daar worden erg goede resultaten mee geboekt. Helaas gebeurt immuuntherapie in Nederland alleen bij reguliere kankervormen of in studieverband (trials). Voor de zeer zeldzame kankersoort die Job heeft, staat er momenteel geen trial open. De behandeling in Duitsland is zijn laatste hoop. Hij kan hier half januari mee starten. De totale behandelkosten zullen 85.000 euro bedragen. Aangezien dit niet vergoed wordt door de zorgverzekering, hebben we jouw hulp hard nodig. Met jouw bijdrage krijgt Job een kans. Elke bijdrage, hoe klein ook, maakt een verschil.

Onze lieve Job. Nieuwsgierig en oprecht geïnteresseerd in de mensen en wereld om hem heen. Een aanpakker, kritische wereldverbeteraar en vooral voor iedereen een helpende hand. Je hoeft hem niet eens te bellen; hij staat al voor je klaar met raad en daad! Altijd zijn grenzen verleggen: van het vmbo - ondanks zijn ADD - naar het hbo. Van zijn geboorteplaats Berghem naar Chiang Mai. Van electric engineer naar software developer. Van carnivoor naar veganist. Van consument naar minimalist. En hopelijk ook ooit van suikeroom naar liefste papa…

Toen er bij Job op 28 jarige leeftijd kanker werd ontdekt, stortte zijn wereld letterlijk in. In de fase van je leven waarin je mijlpalen hoort te vieren als een eerste woning, huwelijk en geboorte van een kind, vocht Job voor zijn leven. Vijf jaar later durfde hij eindelijk weer te dromen over een eigen huis en een gezinnetje. Tot afgelopen oktober.

“Je hebt metastases in je longen en er is geen behandeling meer mogelijk die je kan genezen…We kunnen je nog een chemokuur geven waardoor je in het beste geval misschien wat langer leeft, maar ook dat kunnen we niet met zekerheid zeggen”. “Dat is wat de oncoloog mij eind oktober vertelde.

Dezelfde chemo waar ik vijf jaar geleden letterlijk doodziek van ben geworden en die mij helaas niet kon genezen. Met een grote kans op weer heel ziek worden tegenover een kleine kans op langer leven en geen kans op genezing, is chemo voor mij geen optie.

Ik heb altijd bewondering en interesse gehad voor het zelf genezend vermogen van het menselijk lichaam. Geïnspireerd op het succesverhaal van de Amerikaanse biologe Rene Chee, die volledig genas door immunotherapie van dezelfde kankersoort als ik, heb ik me verdiept in de materie en hoe ik me er mee kan genezen.”

Immuuntherapie is een vrij nieuwe methode gebaseerd op versterking van het eigen immuunsysteem. In een notendop leert immuuntherapie het lichaam om kankercellen te vernietigen.

Immuuntherapie is binnen kankeronderzoek de meest hoopvolle doorbraak in jaren en is in 2018 bekroond met de Nobelprijs voor Geneeskunde. De ontwikkelingen zitten nu in een stroomversnelling. Dat geeft veel hoop. Voor Job is wachten tot immunotherapie is opgenomen in de reguliere zorg alleen geen optie.

Voor opname van immunotherapie in de reguliere zorg voor zijn specifieke vorm is meer kennis en ervaring nodig. Met de behandeling van Job dragen we hieraan bij. Hopelijk kunnen we op je rekenen.

En Job? Job kijkt uit naar een leven waarin hij weer durft te dromen van een toekomst. Van een toekomst waarin hij vol energie zijn ambities en idealen vorm kan geven.

As we embark on 2024, many of us reflect on resolutions—more time with loved ones more time for personal growth, more time for sports and well-being. For our son and brother, Job (32), "more time" means a chance at life…

In 2018, Job was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, synovial sarcoma. In October, devastating news arrived—he has lung metastases, and conventional chemotherapy offers no cure. Exhausting all options in the Netherlands, we discovered a promising immunotherapy in Germany. Unfortunately, immunotherapy in the Netherlands is limited to common cancers or clinical trials, leaving no trial open for Job's rare cancer. The treatment in Germany is his last hope. He can start in mid-January but the total cost are €85,000. Insurance won't cover it, and we desperately need your help. Your contribution, no matter how small, makes a significant difference.

Our dear Job. Curious and genuinely interested in the people and world around him. A go-getter, a critical world improver, and above all, a helping hand for everyone. You don't even have to call him; he's already there for you with advice and action! Always pushing his boundaries: from vocational education - despite his ADD - to university. From his birthplace Berghem to Chiang Mai. From electrical engineer to software developer. From carnivore to vegan. From consumer to minimalist. And hopefully someday from sweetest uncle to the sweetest dad...

When cancer was discovered in Job at the age of 28, his world literally collapsed. In the phase of life where you should be celebrating milestones like buying your first home, getting married, and the birth of a child, Job fought for his life. Five years later, he finally dared to dream again of a home of his own and a little family. Until last October.

"You have metastases in your lungs, and there is no treatment that can cure you anymore... We can give you another round of chemotherapy, which might, in the best case, give you some more time, but we can't say that for sure." That's what the oncologist told me at the end of October.

The same chemotherapy that killed me from inside out five years ago and unfortunately couldn't cure me. With a high chance of getting very sick again versus a small chance of living longer and no chance of cure, chemotherapy is not an option for me. I have always admired and been interested in the self-healing ability of the human body. Inspired by the success story of American biologist Rene Chee, who fully recovered through immunotherapy from the same type of cancer as mine, I delved into the subject and how I could heal myself with it."

Immunotherapy is a relatively new method based on strengthening the body's own immune system. In a nutshell, immunotherapy teaches the body to destroy cancer cells. Immunotherapy is the most promising breakthrough in cancer research in years and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2018. Developments are now accelerating. That gives a lot of hope. However, waiting for immunotherapy to be included in regular care is not an option for Job.

More knowledge and experience are needed for the inclusion of immunotherapy in regular care for his specific form. With Job's treatment, we contribute to this. Hopefully, we can count on your support.

And Job? Job looks forward to a life where he can dare to dream of a future again. A future where he can shape his ambitions and ideals with full energy.
