January Tamarind: The stories in between.
‘The stories in between’ for me are the works that I feel often go missed or are somewhat minimised in particular mainstream spaces but very much alive in and around us.
January Tamarind is a concept space/gallery that houses a collection of art, objects and ephemera. The concept exists via Instagram with a website launching in December.
The journey came to fruition during Covid-19 lockdown and initially born out of a desire to share my perspective on objects and design and with an additional focus on works from the African Diaspora both timeless and contemporary.
I have worked on various projects both of my own and in collaboration with other creatives and wanted a project/space to be an unfiltered version of the things I found interesting, wanted to share attempted to communicate and led me to particular ways of thinking about the world and self.
I wanted January Tamarind to be what a pedestal is to an object is in physical space and what a consciously framed piece of work is in a gallery or home; a moment whereby things are given value, however, every day and the ability to engage thought, consider new perspectives and give time.
I want the space to have underlined focus on works of other creatives/artist specifically from the black community and additionally fill the gap of black owned art spaces.
The idea behind the fund was to develop other areas of the business; from studio set up, packaging, framing and presentation of selected artist works that have been apart of concept and focus both in London and abroad, launching of the 1st pop-up space in London and arrangement of additional stock and delivery.
Trust in the Universe and all things will follow.
Peace & Best
