Isaiah's fight against Leukemia

Please read our recent update.

Hi, my name is Alicia, and my son is Isaiah. Sadly Isaiah is in the fight of his life.
We started this go fund-me to help with medical bills and hospital funds.

This is his story;

On February 14, 2022, I rushed Isaiah to the hospital. Isaiah had a bump on his head that naturally looked like it just grew out of his head. He had been complaining of headaches a week before and had a persistent cough that wouldn't go away for two weeks. We brushed it off as what we assumed was his asthma. We also thought maybe he bumped his head from coughing so bad. We were worried perhaps it was the cause of the headaches. Once we were admitted to the ER, tests were run. A covid test was given, and we were told he was positive for covid. They said the symptoms he was feeling were all covid related. The headaches, the persistent cough and congestion. A CT scan was also needed for the bump on his forehead. The CT results came back as what they said was a rare diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis 2.
We were discharged and went home and accepted the results. We were prepared for our son to have CT scans for the rest of his life. As far as we knew, Neurofibromatosis 2 was incurable. It would cause bumps and deformities to his face and loss of hearing in both ears. We took the steps needed to set appointments to get him checked for Neurofibromatosis(NF2). At the same time, we also wanted him to get better from covid.

On February 18th, I tested Isaiah for covid again. He was negative, yet he was still showing covid like symptoms. By Sunday, Isaiah couldn't hold anything down that lasted till Tuesday. He was so sick and paled we started to worry. We assumed it was the cause of his NF2 diagnosis. His left eye was almost bulged out as well.

Tuesday, February 22, 2022, we rushed Isaiah to the children's hospital, 40 minutes from us. Once we got admitted, the doctors were informed of our previous diagnosis of NF2. We thought that was the cause of his busted eye vessels and bulged-out eye. Once doctors started running tests to confirm our last diagnosis, they felt something wasn't right. We were given a new diagnosis. The doctors informed us he was misdiagnosed.
Isaiah's blood showed he had Leukemia. Acute myeloid Leukemia, to be exact. Isaiah had an oncologist assigned to his case within a couple of hours, and everything moved quickly. He was given another CT scan and admitted into the cancer ward. His blood counts were so low that he was given a blood transfusion and a platelet transfusion. Wednesday night, he went for a procedure to place a Broviac placement connected to his heart's main artery. Thursday night, he started his first dose of chemo.
Isaiah had multiple bumps throughout his head and forehead that accumulated white blood cells. We found out that in the 2nd week, Isaiah needed six spinal taps every week for six weeks. They plan to do it to check his fluids and push chemo simultaneously. They want to treat the white blood cell count build-up in his head. This will hopefully help lessen the headaches and pressure he has been feeling daily. We have a long six months ahead of us. Isaiah has only started his battle. We know this won't be easy. We also know our insurance will only cover so much. Every time Isaiah has a procedure, he is sedated. Insurance only covers so much of the Anesthesia bills. At this point, anything will help us. We would be grateful for any helpful donation.

Our son is 13, and we wish the worst thing he would face right now was puberty. Yet here we are with a cancer diagnosis.

Isaiah is a very compassionate kid with a big heart. He has a contagious energy. You cannot help but love being around him.
It will be a long road ahead of us. Isaiah is a fighter; we hope and pray he will win this battle.

If you can't donate, a simple share, a prayer, or positive healing vibes are enough for us. Peace and love. ✌

Update on Isaiah;
After Isaiah's 1st cycle of chemo, Isaiah hit remission. We were beyond excited that the chemo was working so fast. Within two months after hitting remission, we were told Isaiah was no longer in remission. His Leukemia started to come back in tiny traces and then small traces. We did another Bone marrow biopsy at the beginning of June and then again in the 2nd week of June. Each time the Leukemia was still coming back into his bone marrow.

At the end of June, we were given the news that Isaiah would need a bone marrow transplant.

Isaiah will be heading to San Antonio at the end of August. There he will be given some more intense chemo & wait for a bone marrow match. It wasn't the news we were expecting.

For us, his parents, it hurt our hearts so much. We know Isaiah is a strong kid, and we pray he will get back on the road to remission every day.

After receiving his bone marrow transplant, Isaiah and his mother will stay in San Antonio. Isaiah will be in the hospital for 4-6 weeks. After he is discharged, we will need help with transportation, hotels, food and living expenses to stay close to the children's hospital in San Antonio. Isaiah will have to be nearby in the case of any reason his body starts to reject the bone marrow. He will also be doing clinic visits three times a week. We can't risk being an hour away from the hospital in case something happens.

We can't guarantee what the future holds, but we aren't giving up. Isaiah's fight is not over; the real battle is only beginning. We appreciate any donations we get. It will all go to the road to remission for Isaiah and his family. Anything helps. We always need prayers for Isaiah as well as his family, fighting by his side every day. ✌️

Update 10-14-2022: A donor has finally been cleared. Isaiah will be receiving a transplant on October 25th.
