Ireland's first Wildlife Hospital

Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital

- Help us Build a Hospital for Ireland’s Wildlife

Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland (WRI) is organising this fundraiser
Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland is appealing to you to help us build a Hospital for Ireland’s wildlife.

Ireland’s wildlife needs a Hospital . Somewhere safe, where wounded, injured, sick and orphaned wildlife of all species, from all corners of Ireland will get the round-the-clock care they need by trained, experienced staff.

We’re fundraising to build a centre of excellence where all species of Irish wildlife who are in trouble will be welcomed and given the treatment and care they need, so they can be released back into the wild.

We Need Your Help
We need your help to build this Wildlife Hospital. We need it because Ireland’s wildlife is in trouble, many species are struggling to survive, some are becoming extinct. The wildlife we have need all the help we can give.

The pandemic has caused an overwhelming increase in wildlife casualty numbers as house-bound nature lovers rescue orphaned and injured wildlife they find on their doorsteps. The individual rehabilitators nationwide are struggling to cope with the  huge numbers of animals so we are working to fix this crisis by building an emergency interim Wildlife Hospital.

The Emergency Wildlife Hospital
We have found a home for this Emergency Hospital in Garlow Cross, Co Meath, it will be a national Hospital, a resource to benefit wildlife from all over the country. We are adapting an empty barn and stables to cater for injured wild animals, and need all the help we can get financially, and in-kind, to have this Hospital fully functional by March 2021 for the influx of orphaned wildlife.

The Immediate Tasks
We will need to build boxes and cages inside the refurbished stables for some animal accommodation. The main treatment rooms and hospital accommodation will have to be constructed inside the barn either from porta-cabins – which we will have to purchase – or as a new wooden structure built for us. We need immediate financial help and also building, joinery, plumbing and electrical volunteer help to get this up and running.

A benefit to Irish society as a whole
Because volunteering to help animals in a natural setting is a proven way of promoting social, psychological, spiritual and physical well-being, young and vulnerable groups in Irish society will have an opportunity to help care for some of the orphaned and recovering animals in our care.

With that aim WRI, invites organisations that empower the young and the at-risk groups in our society to collaborate with the Wildlife Hospital by forming a social partnership with WRI, a partnership that will benefit Irish society as a whole and Irish wildlife greatly.

The nitty gritty
We need some Euro 90,000 to build this emergency interim hospital but the estimated cost of the full build of the Wildlife Rehabilitation & Teaching Hospital and Visitor Centre project is expected to be closer to €3million. Being open to the public as a visitor attraction, the Hospital is expected to be self-funding in a short time frame.
