In November 2021 Maciek had a stroke at work and his coworkers saved his life. The stroke was caused by an aneurysm on his brain. Our options were limited, with the most severe outcome being total paralysis or death. This was the most difficult decision of our family’s life, and we decided to opt for brain surgery.
During surgery in February 2022 Maciek had another stroke, more devastating than the first. The damage caused by both strokes will need months of intensive physiotherapy for him to be able to walk, move his arm, and function as close as possible to before.
The specialist support (neurological physiotherapy) that he requires to repair the damage and regain the use of his left side is months of daily intensive physiotherapy. Unfortunately, the NHS and private healthcare can only offer 1 hour each per week, when Maciek needs 4 hours daily. In June, Maciek will start neurologically complex physiotherapy in Poland, which we’re self-funding.
Maciek is a fighter and there is no doubt that he will never give up. He is determined to get back to his previous life and go back to work. We are so lucky that we are surrounded by amazing friends who are supporting us on every step we take. Our employers are extremely helpful, and they are helping us beyond our expectations.
