Help Charlie get an Innowalk & stay off Oxygen
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ananda and this is my beautiful son Charlie.
A bit of background:
Due to complications during delivery Charlie required extensive resuscitation and was left with severe brain damage. The everyday effects of this are that Charlie requires supplementary oxygen, he cannot swallow so requires intrusive procedures throughout the day to keep his airways clear. He has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is totally reliant on other to move.
Why are we here?
Over a year ago we found out about this amazing machine that would enable Charlie to move. We finally managed to trial it for a month at home and the outcomes were mind blowing.
After just 4 days we started being able to reduceCharlie’s oxygen and by day 14 he was completely self ventilated. His always cold hands and feet started to warm up and stay warm as the movement was improving his circulation.
He became more alert, reaching for objects, started participating in the movement of his own body more when not on the machine and started sleeping in more regular patterns. He started clearing his secretions more effectively himself resulting in less intervention and his chest which always sounds so noisy started sounding clear.
And to top it all off, Charlie absolutely loves it. It took Charlie a year to learn how to smile and these smiles are still the most beautiful thing. He would smile every morning when he’d start to feel his legs move, it was so wonderful.
Without the machine we have seen Charlie’s oxygen requirement start to creep back in, he is desperately trying to move his body but isn’t able without the full body support that the Innowalk provided.
his chest sounds awful and he’s using all his energy to try to clear it. It’s absolutely heart breaking to see him so frustrated and uncomfortable and to know it doesn’t need to be like this.
The cost of the machine is unimaginable for us by ourselves but we really hope that together we can help get Charlie this life changing piece of equipment he needs and so deserves.
