Family and Friends,
It is with a heavy heart I have to tell this story and ask for your help. A little over two weeks ago, I received a phone call from my cousin, Andrea, in Ecuador. She called worried as she admitted both of her parents to the ICU with severe cases of Covid-19. Her brother Cristian, age 34, was also home sick with Covid. Though he was highly ill, he was not able to be admitted along with his parents. There were no additional resources to help him because of the current state in my hometown of Cuenca.
Since that call, my baby cousin has tragically lost her brother, father, and mother. Her brother passed on April 23, her father passed on May 7, and her mother passed yesterday, May 8, 2021. Andrea is the only family member left and a new mom to a 32-week premature baby girl.
A little about my family:
My aunt, Narcisa Lopez, was a dedicated member of her community as a well-known, very loved social worker and activist. She was the president of her non-profit foundation Funcrea; educating patients with catastrophic illnesses; on top of that, an incredible daughter, sister, and mother. My uncle, Ramiro Roman, was a loving son, husband, and father to Cristian and Andrea. Last but not least, my cousin Cristian, an artist, photographer, and infectious soul. He was a caring son who lived to take care of his parents and provided incredible support to his younger sister. This family was beautiful. Each member full of life and generosity and were inseparable.
I've created this go fund me page to help Andrea have a chance to start healing from her loss and focus on her budding family. The first step is to help Andrea pay for all the medical bills, funeral expenses, probate costs, and the recovery of her premature baby.
Doing this means a lot to me for several reasons. Of course, they are my family, but it wasn't just that. My aunt Narcisa was like my second mom, someone I could always rely on, and mostly a role model.
