In Her Voice, I Found My Purpose: A Master’s with a Mission

Donation protected
I’m raising funds to pursue a Master’s in Gender, Sexuality & Culture at University College Dublin. This degree will strengthen the work I already do supporting Latina women in Ireland who have survived domestic violence and face multiple barriers.

My name is Zany Flores. I’m a psychologist, migrant, and committed volunteer in Ireland. For years, I’ve been working directly with women—especially Latina migrants—who have experienced domestic violence and face challenges like language barriers, lack of access to services, and social isolation.

I currently volunteer with Latina Women Against Violence, a nonprofit organisation that supports Latin American women by offering emotional accompaniment, language support, guidance on navigating legal and health systems, and connection to vital services. I also help coordinate workshops and work on individual cases, supporting women through their recovery process.

For nearly 20 years, I’ve worked in the beauty industry—doing nails and holding space where women feel safe to share their stories. Through thousands of conversations, I began to hear recurring themes: trauma, sexual abuse, anxiety, grief. That intimacy with women’s real experiences inspired me to study Psychology at Dublin Business School—and now, to take the next step.

Alongside that, I’m currently involved in community-based volunteering, especially through home visitations with St. Vincent de Paul, where I support individuals and families facing economic hardship and social isolation.

In the past, I’ve also volunteered at a food bank, participated in prison visitation programs, and taken part in outreach initiatives supporting people experiencing homelessness. These experiences have allowed me to connect with people from many different cultural and social backgrounds and have deeply shaped my understanding of the complex realities faced by marginalized communities.

And yet, despite all this work with diverse communities, I’ve come to understand that my true calling is working with women—especially those who have experienced violence, exclusion, or trauma. This is where my heart feels most present, where I believe I can offer the most impact, and where I want to continue growing.

This work is not new to me. But to keep growing and doing it responsibly, I need more tools.

Why I need your support?

I’ve been accepted into the Master’s in Gender, Sexuality & Culture at University College Dublin, a program that will give me the knowledge and skills to continue supporting women survivors more effectively and ethically.

While I hold a degree in Psychology, it is not enough to qualify for the kind of professional roles I want to pursue in gender-based violence support, advocacy, and trauma recovery. This Master’s is essential for me to specialize and work in the areas where I can truly make a long-term difference.

The cost of the program is €23,000, which I cannot afford on my own. This is not just a personal milestone—it’s a necessary step to deepen the work I already do and reach more women who need it.

Thank you for believing in collective care

When women are supported, entire communities are transformed. With your help, I can continue walking beside those who have lost almost everything—but not their hope.
