Seward Park Grocery and Pet thanks you!

Thank you so much! I have a new lease which goes into effect tomorrow, August 20. In short, I was able to buy the store and it will be renamed "Seward Park Grocery and Pet." Big thanks to the previous owner and the landlord, we were able to work it out.

THE STORE ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE! I hope to be able to serve you and your pets for many years to come.

With Gratitude,
Christina

Update - August 10 We are still open! Thank you so much for your help!

Update - August 8 (Isn't this supposed to be Seafair Sunday?)

We're still open! We'll be here at least through this week, I'll keep you posted. THANK YOU to everyone! I am so touched by the support I'm getting from this community, I appreciate it so much! Enjoy your Sunday! - Christina

Update - August 4th

Thank you and please continue to tell friends and neighbors to keep us up and running. The owner is very supportive of women-owned businesses and we've kept an open line of communication to negotiate a lease; I know we can find middle ground. We are still open today because of their willingness to help me continue the store, and I thank them for their flexibility.

But time is running out! VanishingSeattle.com has reached out to help deliver the word - please don't let our store be another statistic! If you want to help us from becoming another sad statistic, we need your help now! ANY and every amount donated helps, so please share with your friends and family.

P.S. If you want to write a check, please make it out to Seward Park Grocery and Pet, It can be dropped off at the store. And please note, all donations will be refunded if we don't get more traction, please help put the word out!

UPDATE JULY 30: Turns out the partnership won't work, so we're back to the original goal and we need your help more than ever! The sooner we can fund this, the sooner I can re-stock the shelves and get back to business.

Thank you and please share!

UPDATE JULY 29: We are halfway to our goal!

I've secured a partner for a $50,000 to match my investment. We still have some hurdles to leap, but with your help we're on our way. Thank you so much! Your support is invaluable, and supports a local, independent, woman-owned business.

Updated Goal:

I will put in $50,000 of my savings, and put up another $25,000 operating capital for wages, initial lease payments, and restocking the shelves.

I need $100, 000 to make this work, and Ican’t thank you enough for your support!

Hi,

My name is Christina Childs and I want to Re-open Ideal Pet Stop as Seward Park Grocery and Pet.  I've sold my house to fund a sizeable down payment, and I have a few months of working capital to get started. The plan was always for me to take over, but for a myriad of reasons, the timeline has been accelerated and I need your help.

Why I’m best suited to run this store:

A little backstory: After 20+ years in corporate America and several major life disruptions, I was ready to go back to work. Based on my experiences, I developed criteria for my next career move which are non-negotiable:

  • Local.
  • No desk.
  • No Haters.
  • Be of service to others.

2020 made me, like the rest of the planet, feel so helpless; The 24 hour news cycles and day drinking weren't helping anyone. So I decided it was a good time to make my goals a reality. I answered a Craisglist ad for Ideal Pet Stop. Local, check. No desk, check. No haters, check. Be of service, check.

In the interview, Val kept asking me why I wanted to work there, why? I simply replied that I wanted to work at our local pet store. It's what I want. (And it happened to check off all my criteria.) It was so funny, I think he thought I was nuts. And so I began living the life I wanted on my terms.

Now I have the opportunity to to keep and build upon the little store we all love. I raised my kids here, these are my people, this is our place. Our neighborhood without a corner store is unacceptable, and the community has made that quite clear. I've heard you, and what you can expect from me is hard work, kindness, and honesty.

Business is all about relationships and earning trust, and now I'm asking you to trust me. I can successfully launch the new "Seward Park Grocery and Pet" with your support. These are my goals:

-Streamline Inventory and Order Process.
-Add more merchandise the local community wants to carry, like beer and wine.
-Build online presence so customers can pre-order items we don't always carry.
-Upgrade HVAC and Electrical.
-Improve wayfinding and signage in the store.
-Explore additional parking and improve the trip from vehicle to store
-Improve the trip between car and store
-Pay a living wage and offer  benefits to our Essential Workers.

Thank you for your consideration as we work our way from challenge to solution. Stay tuned and keep sending the good energy, it appears to be working!

Christina Childs
