My (our) amazing mother has been fighting for her life in the ICU for the last 2 weeks. What started as a simple infection we later found out was liver cancer with advanced stages of cirrhosis and it’s making it almost impossible for her body to recover. We are living out of her hospital room, commuting back and forth from across town to stay in her hospital room day and night. All of the siblings have either taken leave from work or have lost their jobs in order to be at her bedside. We are praying for recovery, but we are realistic of the odds. We could use anything.

Our sweet mommagurl passed this morning surrounded by her family, near and far. We missed her before she was gone, we will always carry her with us, we will always be a little lost without her.
We spent 22 days in the ICU with our beautiful matriarch. We saw her fight, we saw her struggle, we watched the light fade from her eyes and come back in moments of hope. We came together as a family, spent every night with her in the hospital, rotating shifts and taking care of her the way she took care of us. We got to reminisce about the beautiful childhood that she and our dad provided for us, all the laughs and all the love. We had a red carpet Oscars party in the ICU in honor of her love for awards shows. We made fast friends with her nurses who had such admiration for our mom and such respect for our family; explaining everything as they did it to ensure our fears did not take over. They made sure she was comfortable and loved, they cared for her like she was their mom. In a way, she was always everyone’s mom.
Thank you for never judging me, for always telling me the truth, for showing me that a heart too big is just the right size. You are the best cook I’ll ever know.
We could use anything towards medical expenses and her celebration of life. Thank you in advance.
