From Skidoos to Unyielding Hope: My Journey to Conquer Iceland and Inspire Others
In 2017, I was speeding across the icy glaciers of Iceland on a skidoo, oblivious to the brain tumour silently changing my life. A year on from that photo, I faced a diagnosis that turned my world upside down. Now, as I prepare for an extraordinary expedition—running the entire length of Iceland (not a skidoo in sight!) —I'm seeking your support.
Why This Matters:
In 2018, my life took a dramatic turn. Diagnosed with a brain tumour, I survived a brain haemorrhage and underwent surgery three weeks later. This left me with permanent hearing loss, impaired balance, invasive tinnitus, facial palsy, double vision, and chronic fatigue. I had to relearn to walk and balance, and my career was cut short due to insufferable neuro fatigue.
Despite these challenges, I am determined to conquer new heights and inspire those facing their own battles. This expedition in 2025 is about far more than reaching a destination; it’s about proving that we are not defined by our challenges, but by how we overcome them. Your support will help me turn this dream into reality and show the world that anything is possible.
How You Can Help:
Last year, I founded The Beyond Recovery Project, a non-profit supporting the physical and mental health of brain tumour survivors. This expedition will highlight the incredible work we do and the struggles faced by those living with the lifelong impact of this indiscriminate disease.
By contributing to this expedition, you are not just helping me complete a challenge; you are becoming part of a story that inspires others to overcome adversity. The Beyond Recovery Project supports those living with a brain tumour diagnosis through outdoor and nature-based activities, therapies, counselling, and peer support as well as the opportunity to push their limits and redefine what it is to be a survivor through overseas challenges.
