For the survivors of the Tambayan Youth

Thank you Tambayan youth for sharing your stories, educating us, and bringing hope into our lives.
Our class at GMU learned that many young people in the urban poor communities of Davao City are continually facing extreme poverty, domestic violence, including being used as drug mules against their will. One of the young people we have met as part of our class activity inspired us to do something beneficial. As a young child, Maria (not her real name) was taught by her parents how to hide the drugs under the floor where they sleep, to whom to deliver the packs, and how to discreetly accept payment. They were raised in this kind of environment, and it is only now as a teen that Maria understands the risks and the consequences. She intends to finish her college education through decent means but due to financial hardships, she had to stop going to school. We, as Mason students, stand with her and hope to raise $4,000 so that she can continue her education and graduate. In addition, we hope to raise enough money to extend to her, her siblings, and other young people being assisted by Tambayan Center for Children's Rights, to complete their formal education and rise above their present circumstances.
