My wife , Kay, was a remedial primary school teacher when she had a stroke in 2002. I am her carer. She became paralysed down her left side, became epileptic, has drug rashes from her epilepsy medicine, became incontinent, has some cognitive problems as well as other issues. We both had to quit work so I could care for her & we are now on the government pension.
Early on her left leg regained some movement, but not her left arm/hand. She can walk slowly & unsteadily but must hold on to someone with her right hand. Her incontinence has gone but she still needs to take epilepsy medicines.
Her Neurologists say that, because she hasn't had any further improvements in years, Stem Cells are the only way to improve her and regain some movement in her left arm/hand. We have been waiting for Stem Cells to reach Australia but her doctors have said they won't be using stem cells in her lifetime. A bit hard for her to accept.
We have been advised that she could undergo stem cell treatment in Florida U.S. for 30 days. All up -with the treatment, air fares, accommodation for two of us it will cost approximately USD$50,000.
We are on the pension & don't have anything like this amount of money. If you know Kay you would know that she is a really gracious woman who would help anybody.
If you can donate anything, no matter how much, we would appreciate it & I could get Kay to the US for treatment as she is not getting any younger !
