WHAT? We are organizing the first-ever International Democratic Education Conference (IDEC) in Belgium in 2025, and we need your support to turn this dream into reality!

WHERE? De Kluis, Sint-Joris-Weert, Belgium

WHEN? August 1 to 7, 2025

WHO? A passionate coalition of four organizations and a core team of dedicated individuals is bringing this conference to life. Our key partners include:

  • European Democratic Education Community (EUDEC)
  • CollectiveUP
  • Orvita
  • Quality Education in Europe for Sustainable Social Transformation (QUEST)

This diverse team is supported by a group of changemakers, including Liliana Carrillo, Kenny Vrancken, Esztella Rostasi, Chrysanthi Katrini, Sigrid, Martina Paone, Marie, and Stijn—and many more!

WHY? We believe that education has the power to shape a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world. If education aligns with human values that are often missing in today's society, we can inspire real change. Scientific studies show that the way we are raised directly influences how we raise future generations.

That’s why we’re creating a space where people from across the globe—educators, parents, students, and policymakers—can come together to reimagine education. By supporting IDEC 2025, you’ll be helping to spark a global movement for more inclusive, democratic education that empowers young people to take ownership of their learning.

At the heart of our mission are two core principles:

  • Self-Directed Learning: Children learn best when they follow their natural curiosity.
  • Shared Decision-Making: Students, educators, and communities must co-create the learning experience.

We believe in a world where young people are free to pursue education that is meaningful to them—where they become critical thinkers, engaged citizens, and changemakers. Our goal is to inspire and equip communities around the world to bring this vision to life.

That’s why we’re hosting the European and International Democratic Education Conference (EUDEC & IDEC) in Belgium in 2025. This global event will bring together educators, students, policymakers, and innovators to share best practices and explore transformative approaches to learning. Through dialogue, workshops, and co-creation, participants will leave inspired and ready to implement change in their communities.

This is more than a conference—it’s a movement for education that truly serves humanity.

HOW MUCH?
We need your support to make this conference a success. Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference. Here’s how your donation can help:

€1: Covers a cup of coffee for one of our volunteers.
€10: Pays for one night's accommodation in a tent for a volunteer.
€100: Provides half the meals for one of our volunteers.
€1,000: Feeds 5 volunteers for the entire conference.
€10,000: Covers the total costs for all our volunteers!
Every euro counts. Your generosity helps us support our team of dedicated volunteers, ensuring that this event is accessible to as many people as possible.

PERSONAL STORIES

‍ Kenny's Story
"I’m Kenny, a primary school teacher. Over the years, I’ve seen children and teachers lose their innate curiosity, motivation, and joy in learning. The rigid curriculum leaves little space for what truly interests students. But after visiting several democratic schools, I realized education could be something entirely different—something driven by freedom, curiosity, and authentic engagement. I’m committed to co-organizing IDEC 2025 because I believe every child deserves to learn with passion and purpose."

‍‍ Liliana's Story
"I’m Liliana Carrillo, a playful mother of two teenagers. I’ve seen first-hand how much self-confidence, resilience, and adaptability children develop when given a safe space for self-directed learning. I want more kids to have this life-changing experience. I dream of a world where children can learn at their own pace, where human rights are at the heart of education. IDEC 2025 is an opportunity to make this vision a reality, and I invite you to join us on this journey."
