Hello! My name is Anahi Herrera. I am a first generation college student at the University of Arizona studying Latin American Studies, Mexican American Studies and Political Science. Throughout my time in college I have discovered and nurtured my passion for social justice action and the empowerment of indigenous and marginalized communities.
The IDEAS (International Program for Education and Social Action) study abroad program in Guatemala is a unique opportunity to learn through immersing myself in the culture of Antigua, Guatemala. I am especially excited about this opportunity to participate in internships around themes like development and public health, ethnic relations and human rights, and indigenous and environmental politics. I am also excited about the possibility of meeting Guatemalan activists, artists, students and scholars.
My goal is to participate in this study abroad program in the Spring semester of 2016, but I can't do it without the support of individuals who value the enrichment of my academic experience and my personal growth. I am determined to make the most of this opportunity and I sincerely appreciate your support!
