I’m Elizabeth, a mom in Georgia. I'm fighting to reconnect with my nearly 4-year-old daughter—after the courts took her from me for supporting her with love and acceptance.

A few weeks ago, I lost custody of my child—not because I was abusive or unfit; but because I listened to her. Because I supported her when she showed persistent signs of questioning her gender. A custody evaluator claimed that supporting a child this young in her self-expression in this way was “detrimental,” and based on that, the court gave temporary full custody to my ex-husband, who lives over 1,000 miles away.

Now, my daughter and I are being kept apart in heartbreaking ways:

Let me be clear: I am not fighting for my daughter to be any particular thing. I am fighting for her to be connected to both of her parents. I’m fighting for a future where she is not traumatized by sudden separation from her mother.

This is not an easy fight. Legal experts estimate it will cost over $100,000 to challenge the custody ruling, bring in expert witnesses, and continue to advocate for a fair, child-centered resolution.

I can’t do this alone.
