I'll Walk With You
On Wednesday night we as a community had the opportunity to vote to move forward with forming a committee to provide recommendations towards the School Districts Policy 502.2 or let it stand as is.I am lucky enough to have many friends, acquaintances and familiar faces in attendance on both sides of the issue.
I know many of you who were there that night and voted to form a committee. I know you are amazing, kind, good hearted people who feel unsure of the policy for important reasons. That the reason you voted to form a committee has nothing to do with the youth of the LGBTQ+ community. However, this is not how it was perceived by many, most importantly the youth who were in attendance. Many went home in tears, unsure of how to process what the intensity and energy of the meeting meant. Some felt threatened and more at risk. Considering suicide is the number one cause of death among these children it scares me to think that the actions of that night may push some closer to that reality. I cannot let this be. A primary song has often come to mind as of late. "I'll Walk With You" If you're not familiar with it or don't remember the words click on the link.
I know my faith community, I know of our goodness and capacity to "mourn with those who mourn and comfort those who stand in need of comfort."
We can help heal, repair any unintentional damage that may have been done and extend an arm of support to these kids. And this is why I'm starting this fund. To have an opportunity to turn our words into action. The words that so many expressed that they love these kids. OUTreach provides a valuable resource to the LGBTQQIA community in southern Alberta. They need money to operate. We can show these kids that they are loved and important as so many of us profess. To extend a hand of love and support by donating to the group that offers them a safe place of support and love.
"By their fruits ye shall know them."
Your donation can be made anonymously if you so choose.
