Support Justin's Celebration of Life

As many know, our own LGBTQ+ legendary bartender and friend, Justin W. Johnston passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the age of 41. He was a beloved son, brother, partner, and friend.

We have been asked by his lifelong partner Jason to create this GoFundMe to assist with the cost of the service and other unexpected expenses that comes with Justin’s sudden and unexpected passing.

Justin started at Hula’s Bar & Lei Stand two decades ago as a server and eventually grew through the ranks to becoming one of the managers for the world renowned LGBTQ+ bar. He was a popular bartender among locals and visitors alike and amassed a daytime following during his time as the daytime bartender.

Justin’s care for people and the big hugs he shared were just some of the many traits that everyone will miss, along with his signature laugh and big smiles. He was also an advocate for the community, served as a former Mr. Honolulu Pride, volunteered to bartend at special events including the Hawaii Rainbow Film Festival, just to name a few of his many accomplishments.

Justin touched the lives and more importantly many hearts. He is survived by his life partner Jason, along with his parents, siblings, many friends and the countless staff members and customer fans of Hula’s.

Service and celebration details are coming soon and the funds raised will help us to plan an appropriate celebration of Justin’s short but fulfilling life. Currently, a celebration is being planned for Sunday, July 27th with more details forthcoming.

Proceeds will be given to Jason, his partner to pay for expenses.
