Hello friends,
My name is Carla Howe and I’ve created this fundraiser to help get my family through the toughest time of our lives.
On Sept 14, 2022, my husband, Garrod, was diagnosed with Stage 2/3 Esophageal Cancer. After having his esophagus and a portion of his stomach removed, on January 4, 2023, the post-op CT scan showed that it has quickly progressed to stage 4 and has spread throughout his Lymphatic System. It is now considered Terminal and any treatment provided through our healthcare system is solely to keep him comfortable.
When Garrod was first diagnosed, everything happened very quickly. Previously, we had always said that if either of us got cancer, chemo would not be an option... But he was diagnosed and before we knew it, the doctors had a chemotherapy and radiation plan ready to go. We barely even had time to think.
During the second round of chemo, he immediately began to have a severe allergic reaction. His heart rate spiked, and his chest felt like it was going to explode. His face turned beet red, and every nurse in the unit was there to try and save him. When the Oncologist told us that this will happen again, will be worse every time, and sometimes, people don't make it to the hospital in time, he pulled the plug and said "I will not die like that in front of my wife."
Ever since, we have taken the natural route and it's helping. Garrod is taking Cannabis Oil, Red clover, Frankincense Black Seed Oil and Essiac Tea. All of which are said to be excellent in fighting cancer. He's eating all the cancer fighting foods, as well as doing Radionics, Reiki and Acupuncture, which come with their own natural healing tinctures. Infrared heat is another amazing way to fight cancer, so we would like to build a small dry sauna, to add to his treatment.
The average life expectancy for a person living with Metastatic Esophageal Cancer is 3 to 6 months. His terminal diagnosis was 1 year ago. He's doing well and we believe that these natural remedies, along with his strength and mental fortitude, are the reasons for that.
It's wonderful, however, they are not cheap. we are spending upwards of $900 per month on all of this and it has left our family struggling. Garrod receives long term disability to replace his income, as he is unable to work. These payments are 60% of his regular income and used to pay rent and some bills, while my income pays for the rest of the bills, groceries and gas. However, the disability payments do not account for inflation and with the tax hikes and cost of living hikes, we are severely struggling to make ends meat. Always in overdraft and left having to choose between bills, food or remedies. And stuck, completely unable to make any lasting memories. Garrod and I have 3 beautiful children; Lilli (17), Sydnee(14) and Caden(13). These kids have been so strong, through all of this. They are Amazing.
During these times when everything is getting more and more expensive and difficult, I am reaching out to you, our friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances and anyone willing, to please help us, as we continue to fight the biggest fight of our lives.
Every dollar will make a difference. If you're unable to donate, please share so we can send this as far and wide as possible.
We thank you, in advance, for your generosity and wish you all the best!
