I have a dear friend named Bonnie who had a terrible accident a few months ago when she fell with her bike and lost her eye from landing on her face on the curb of a sidewalk. Her eye's globe was ruptured, the retina was detached, and the bones on the face were broken around it.

The eye wasn't removed initially but at her following appointment she was told that she should have it removed to avoid further problems from developing and to alleviate the pain that she was enduring because of it. When the eye is removed, she will have to wear a patch for the remainder of her life -OR- She could have an ocular implant (fake eye) inserted that could be connected to the other eye by extending the muscle from one to the other so that they would move in sync and look very real. This was presented as the preferred choice.

Bonnie has medical insurance to cover the removal of the eye but being that the implant is considered to be cosmetic, she would need to pay for that herself and would need $5 ,600 to have it done.

There is no way that she could afford this and there is no way she can work with this condition to earn the money.

This situation has contributed greatly to a lack of self esteem and depression for her. I want to appeal for help on her behalf to my friends and those you share it with, to donate money so that she can have the surgery for the ocular implant. Her sight can't be restored but her self worth and good looks certainly can. Bonnie is a beautiful soul and deserves any help we can offer to her.

I hope we can pull together with donations large or small, so that we can give Bonnie the new eye that she so needs.
