I am starting this gofundme account for a dear friend of mine. On October 31 at 3:30 AM, Ms. Horton arrived home from Halloween festivities. When she arrived, she got out of her car and looked up to find charred beams where her bedroom used to exist. While she was celebrating the holiday at a friend’s house, the fire started from the circuit breaker in the garage below her bedroom. Any other night she would have been asleep in that very room. The family had two cats and a dog. The Sugarspice and Lochte were found hours later hiding in the basement. Wynter, the dog escaped from the home when the firefighters broke down the front door. Unfortunately Wynter was hit by a car and needed to be put to sleep due to his extensive injuries. The family was devastated.
This family has to start all over again.
Let me tell you about this amazing woman and her family. Ms. Horton is a mother of two beautiful daughters Imani and Adriana Horton. In June she retired as a Special Education Teacher of The Buffalo Board of Education after 34 years of service and sent her youngest daughter off to college out of state. She currently works as a Homecare Assistant at a People Inc. group home. She is a member of a catholic church in the diocese in Buffalo and a former actress at Ujima Theater Company. She is the sweetest person you would ever know and she lives her life where she treats others as she would want others to treat her.
Her oldest daughter Imani works at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic. She has trained a service dog through Guiding Eyes for the Blind, who services the blind community as well as police K-9 units and explosives detection companies around the world. The family adopted Wynter from the SPCA in June.
Adrianna is away at college to become a sports trainer. She was recently featured in an article volunteering and packaging food for people in need in her community.
Ms. Horton built her home 13 years ago. Her insurance won't cover the extensive damage. However, she still has to pay the mortgage. If she paid off her home there wouldn't be money for another home. She loves her house and would like to stay in her community. The family is displace and will continue to need support. Ms. Horton was just notified she needs $2000 for security deposit to move to a fully furnished apartment. She has the added expense of food, travel, mortgage and Adrianna's tuition.
Ms. Horton is the type of person that give, give give and never ask for anything. We worked together for about
10 years. He has given so much the students and families of students with special needs. The gofundme website is to help with immediate day to day expenses and for the repair of her home.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
RIP WYNTER
