Hope for Iloriem
Donation protected
On August 28th 2014, Iloriem Peña was headed to the kitchen of her sorority, Delta Gamma, to have some lunch. She had been experiencing some pain in her left knee for the past year or so, and it was taking her longer to get to place to place because of it. As she was going down the stairs to get to the kitchen, she slipped and fell and bent her left leg all the way back and fell on her knee. She could barely move her left leg resulting in her having to wear a brace and use crutches for a while.
After having two MRIs, doctors discovered that there was something unusual in her left femur. A CT scan also showed that there was a large mass near her pancreas. Iloriem then had a biopsy for the tumor in her femur, and it was discovered that she had cancer.
Unfortunately, Iloriem had to leave her classes, friends, and sorority at the University of North Dakota in order to pursue treatment. She was officially diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma and will be starting chemotherapy treatments on the week of November 24th. The doctors let her know that this cancer is curable, and once it is gone, it won't likely return. Once Iloriem has gone through 4-5 months of chemo and is feeling healthier, she will be having surgery to remove the (noncancerous) tumor attached to her pancreas.
Friends and family members have expressed interest in donating to our family to help with medical bills. We wanted to use this site for those people, and any others who would like to donate. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our family and Iloriem through this time and who continues to do so.
