Hope 4 Haley

This is Haley Hooker, she is a 17 year old at Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, LA. She was recently diagnosed with bone cancer.

In March 2014, around Mardi Gras, she began noticing in her left leg around the knee. At first the pain would come and go. Eventually the pain became constant and unbearable. Haley has to climb three flights of stairs daily at school. She told her mom (Angela) and she scheduled an appointment to see the doctor. Haleys dad (Kevin) took her to the appointment. On the first appointment the doctor ordered x-rays. After reading the x-rays the doctor immediately scheduled an appointment for Haley to go to the Shriners' Hospital the very next day. At Shriners' they took more x-rays and they sent Haley to the local St.Judes' Hosptial for more tests.

That was the day that changed Haley's life... Nothing has been normal since. For the first time, Haley was told of the possibility of having cancer. Haley and her mom were sent to St. Jude's in Memphis, TN. within a week of her first doctors' appointment. More test- MRI's, CAT Scans, and blood draws. Finally. THE diagnosis- Osteosarcome with a skip lesion. That means bone cancer with good bone between two tumors. Haleys tumors are in the left femur. Osteosarcoma usually affects teenagers when they have rapid growth.

Haleys dad, step-mom, and brothers come to Memphis as often as they can due to her dads work schedule. Angela (mom) hasn't left her side since they arrived at St. Judes. Haley says "My mom is AWESOME, she keeps me focused on getting well and staying strong".

Angela is a single mom, since their step-dad abandoned them about a year ago; leaving her with lots of bills, a house in need of repairs and no help. Angela had to leave Haley's younger brother with family, and take leave from her job to be with Haley at
St. Judes'. Angela needs financial help even though she tells Haley not to worry; saying "God will take of us".

Hebrews 6:19- This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary.

Thank you for reading Haley's story. Haley, her family, and I appreciate anything you might do to help.
