Hope for Tonga from Wagga Wagga
Donation protected
On Saturday 15 January, Tonga was devastated by the violent eruption of the underwater volcano on the island of Hunga Ha'apai in which subsequently triggered a tsunami. The entire population of Tonga has been impacted with layers of ash covering food sources and limitation of water to feed livestock, root crops dried up and fisheries unable to determine the extent of contamination in the sea.
The eruption has left various communities covered in the thick ash and families are urged to drink bottled water to avoid health risks arising from the fallen ash. Current resources on the ground are not enough and families are in urgent need of clean water and food protection. Tonga is heavily reliant on imported food and water sources until deemed safe which can take months and even years.
We call for unity as Tonga tries to rebuild their lands seeking donations to go towards a shipping container, freight & supplies to help the Tongan community in Wagga who have immediate family in Tonga. Any donation no matter how big or small will help us aid our pacific friends and families. Your support during this time of need is greatly appreciated.
